Impetus/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!

Ever wonder why 'Silent' and 'Listen' has the same letters; and carry a similar meaning?  Its imperative that your listening ability is keen, thats half the conversation.   Being at one with self, centers thoughts and directions of our Father.  In the stillness is when revelations happen.   Discovery is a beautiful tool, its a blessing.  To reveal innermost feelings, it can be cathartic and healing.  Wounds are meant to learn something from.  If you are constantly beating your head against a stone, clearly its a sign of refusal to grow.   We're here to give, to be examples of the beautiful things that are afforded in life.

Stay strong in your convictions, because baby steps lead to gigantic leaps, it shows that you possess prowess, in the details of your thoughts.  The vigor of life keeps steady and fully present in the miracles that are bountiful.  I can honestly say that for every challenge, there is a lesson, and for every lesson, character building was the intricate missing piece of the puzzle. Canvasses and Tapestry are the needlepoint to our lives, demonstrating how we uniquely connect for a greater glory beyond our grasp of why.  The bond is so genuine and loving when you understand how to proceed.

Flashback Who's That

Flashback Who's That Thursday:

Lucy Pearl was an R&B supergroup formed in 1999, the brainchild of former Tony! Toni! TonĂ©! member Raphael SaadiqA Tribe Called Quest DJ and producer Ali Shaheed Muhammad and D'Angelo.  However, D'Angelo backed out of the group due to scheduling conflicts.  After D'Angelo backed out Raphael came up with the idea of adding Dawn Robinson (of En Vogue) to the group. They released their self-titled debut album Lucy Pearl in 2000.  After two singles, "Dance Tonight" and "Don't Mess with My Man", Dawn Robinson left and was replaced by Joi.

The idea and concept was tight, and if the ego's of Robinson and Saadig wasnt so inflated, this group had the making of a hit making soul machine.  Today Ali is back with Tribe and producing, Dawn is still being difficult and Raphael is producing TV and Music.  For the fans we can reminsce of what was, though ever so briefly in time.

Paula .... All that goodness. I got Nexxt!
Dumb Dumb Dumb Robin Thicke ... Letting ALL this goodness get away!! Paula Patton is DONE!!!!!!!!!!! With your swinging singing *ss. BYE Boo!!

according to TMZ ...Robin Thicke threw a Hail Mary last Friday to try to save his marriage ... cancelling his Atlanta concert and flying to Canada to plead with his wife.

Sources connected with the couple tell us ... Paula Patton told Robin Friday she wanted to end the marriage. Robin then abruptly cancelled his show, saying he had throat problems. But the cancellation was solely so he could sit with his wife and try to change her mind.

We're told Paula -- who is shooting a movie in Vancouver and Robin had a long, face-to-face talk, both acknowledging they had not been getting along and frequently arguing.

Our sources say in the end Robin realized Paula was determined to end the marriage and reluctantly agreed, but was very upset. We're told she was also upset.

The next day Robin cancelled his Orlando concert so he could be with their child.

Heroin

'Smack', 'H', 'Junk' and 'Skag' are some of the street names for Heroin.  The Heroin mystique has a ruputation as the drug of artistic genius. There’s nothing romantic about this killer.  It boogles my mind about whats the intrigue with Heroin?   Its a 'downer' but users like the way it probes their mental state into a euphoria like state.   Philip Seymour Hoffman died with what the media have depicted as a certain cinematic flair — the “needle still in his arm,” 50 or so bags of heroin and used syringes scattered around the Greenwich Village apartment where he was found. It was an unexpected ending for the actor, who, it’s been said, didn’t quite look the part. After all, as Frank Rich wrote in New York “This tragic loss doesn’t fit the Kurt Cobain/Jim Morrison  or James Dean/Heath Ledger  templates of a brilliant (and glamorous) young performers self-destructing or being struck down, leaving behind a relatively brief and stunted career and reveries of what might have been.”

In Hollywood 28 of the most popular entertainers who died from drug overdose related deaths 14 of those deaths was due to Heroin usage.  Kurt Kobain, Lenny Bruce, James Dean, Heath Ledger, Jimi Hendrix, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Janis Joplin, Cory Monteith, Jim Morrison, Billie Holiday, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman and Dee Dee Ramone.  At the peak of their careers, such incredible highs, and some apparent lows. Drugs and Alcohol temporarly coats the pain.  La La land is one of the toughest palaces to be, with accolades and rich rewards, proving that all that glitters isnt gold, some times the lights fizzle out quicker than expected.

Driven/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Lets Talk about It!!

God is directing our steps its all ordained in the landscape of life.  Mountains that we climb, are with a driven purpose for the fundamentals, honoring our wonderfully best.  In actuality without belief you short change yourself on the glory, and we must glorify.  Isolation can make things real very quickly.   One stepping stone in the wrong direction, does not define your tapestry.  This world is largely based on feast and famine, dry seasons are part of the climate too.  Let your days of feasting speak more of the harvest that you have created.  Negativity is alive and well, see all situations, it only lasts for a season.  Careful that you do not let tests, hinder your walk.

'Change' comes from situational understandings.  We grow at different paces and maturity. I dont think anyone should try to change you, that pressure at the end of the day, just leads to resentment.   We are works in progress, constantly seeking and striving.  Love should be patient and come with unconditionality.  You must bring, honesty, sincerity and dedication to any situation, thats all that is really needed. The compromise should be to the willingness to walk together, as oppose to leading.  Disconcerting happens in the fallout of false pretense and fallacy.

For The Love Of You ...

Whitney Houston was a Worldwide superstar.  For anyone who would argue that fact, or her legacy, the legions of fan that transcended color boundaries.  Here's a link below from a Holland superstar name Do Van Hulst taking on a lesser known song from the Houston catalog.  Her interpretation of 'Just The Lonely Talking Again' attests to the fact that Do (short from Dominique) is a bonafide Houston fan; also notice the capacity crowd, who are singing along to every word, which is another testament of the genius of the late singer.  Lastly what I appreciate most is the fact that Do opted for a lesser known song, as oppose to going for the threatrics of some of Houston's more popular songs.  The Holland singer handles the seductive vocals, (which I think is hard to do) and finds her moments in a lovefest tribute to Houston.  Very well done!

Flashback Who's That Thursdays!

Tweet entered the charts with her debut solo single, "Oops (Oh My)", a risquĂ© song about self-loving and appreciation. The song was produced by Timbaland and featured guest vocals by Missy Elliott. The single hit number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. In April 2002, Tweet released her debut album Southern Hummingbird to strong reviews. The album featured production by Timbaland (who contributed four tracks) and Tweet herself. It also featured guest vocals by Elliott on "Oops (Oh My)", Bilal on "Best Friend", and BeatClub Records 'Ms. Jade on "Sexual Healing (Oops Pt. 2)".  The album was filled with soul-stirring vocals and lyrics taken from Tweet's own life experiences. The album spawned another two singles, Timbaland-produced "Call Me".  The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart.  Tweet toured to promote the 'Hummingbird' and still sang backup on industry heavyweights like Whitney Houston, Madonna, Monica and Karen Clarke-
Sheard.  2005 saw the release of 'Its Me Again' Elliot produced 7 tracks unfortunately no magic happened.

Today Tweet continues to record EP's and tours.

Prince & 3RDEYEGIRL played two more surprise shows on their ‘Hit and Run’ tour last night, February 14th 2014, at the Kings Place Arts Centre in London’s Kings Cross.  Prince and the girls (guitarist Donna Grantis, bassist Ida Nielsen and drummer Hannah Ford Welton) took to the stage to play a spellbinding 60-minute acoustic set consisting of rarely performed tracks, including classics such as ‘Take Me With U’ and ‘Raspberry Beret’ on a bare stage.  To the shock of those in attendance, the enigmatic icon undertook a very rare Q&A session answering questions from fans submitted prior the show.  Then, without warning, the backdrop rose to reveal a fully electric set up!  To the surprise of those in attendance, the band proceeded to tear the roof off a 300 capacity venue normally used for hosting classical concerts!
Playing for another hour the bone-shaking electric set contained exclusive unreleased songs from the highly anticipated debut 3RDEYEGIRL album PLECTRUMELECTRUM, set for release this year.  Throughout the show, Prince played tribute to the music of classic UK artists, playing The Clash’s ‘Train in Vain’ and Roxy Music’s ‘More Than This’.
In keeping with the rest of the ‘Hit and Run’ tour the show was announced at the 11th hour via the 3RDEYEGIRL twitter (@3RDEYEGIRL) resulting in a queue of hundreds of fans gathering at the venue.  Acknowledging the massive demand, immediately after the show finished Prince announced that he would play another concert for the fans outside that hadn’t made it into the first performance.
The shows were the latest in Prince and 3RDEYEGIRL’s spontaneous ‘Hit and Run’ tour of London following history making performances at the Electric Ballroom and Shepherds Bush Empire.  The Guardian said it best, describing the Electric Ballroom shows in this way: “These are just performances by one of the greatest funk-rock bands ever.”  The group has been showered in 5-star reviews from all major reviewing media.
At Kings Place, 3RDEYEGIRL announced additional confirmed shows, which include Koko in Camden on Sunday February 16th, the legendary Ronnie Scotts on Monday the 17th, and more dates TBA (including a visit to Manchester).

Is this the 'new' BLACK??

Is Lupita Nyong'o the 'new' Black; or is she the 'Black' that 'crossover' America is 'comfortable' with? Hmmm

Lovely ...

Is 'Sharp' a RAPIST ??

Is this the face of a RAPIST??? Darren 'Sharp' Sharper has victims coming out from 'several' states with Blueprint claims of 'RAPE' and being drugged into a coma like state from ....The alleged controlled substances morphine and zolpidem, another name for the prescription sleep aid Ambien.

Sharper, 38, who played defensive back for the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints during his 14-year career, appeared Friday in a Los Angeles County court, but his arraignment was postponed until Thursday, said spokesman Ricardo Santiago of the district attorney's office.

Sharper was arrested January 17 and released on $200,000 bail, but prosecutors will seek next Thursday to raise his bail to $10 million, Santiago said.

The alleged controlled substances were morphine and zolpidem, another name for the prescription sleep aid Ambien.

On October 30, Sharper met two women at a West Hollywood nightclub -- Bootsy Bellows on the Sunset Strip -- and invited them to a party, authorities allege.

Sharper, who lives in Miami Beach, Florida, allegedly told them he had to stop by his Los Angeles hotel room to pick up something, and he invited them to the room. While there, he allegedly gave each woman a drink in the form of shot, and the women then passed out, prosecutors said.

The first woman woke up naked hours later as Sharper allegedly was sexually assaulting her, prosecutors said. The other woman awakened and "interrupted his actions," according to court papers cited by prosecutors.

The two women gathered their belongings and left the hotel, authorities said.

On January 14, Sharper met two women at the same West Hollywood nightclub and also invited them to a party, prosecutors said.

Sharper seems to have deep ISSUES!!! Why resort to rape?  He could have any woman that he wanted.  $$$ and Power clearly has clouded his judgement.  If convicted Sharper could serve up to 30 years in prison.

Effervescence/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!

Alone in my solitude, I stand humbly awaiting my mission to serve.  Im merely a vessel to address, minister and inspire.  Those 'now' moments are passing very fast and as they pass, something dims and fade.  The effervescence flow starts to dissipate and you're left wondering what happened and when did you lose yourself.  Its time to refuel, retool and bring some new energy into a somewhat stagnated existence.   Turn yourself into a camera, focus on whats important, capture those moments, zoom in on the great times and develop from the negatives, if you don't like what you see, take another picture.  You'll find that value doesn't decrease itself based on another's inability to see your worth.  That was a very 'tough' lesson for me to learn.  In life comfortability doesn't have an age window.  Im a believer that what is meant, is always met with resistance, which gives it a greater purpose.

You can move on, though difficult, you are much stronger than it seem.  Crying out doesn't deplete your focus, and isn't a sign of weakness.  Recently I was talking to a friend, and God put it on my heart to share these words 'Matters that come out of nowhere, really is so telling as to who we are and what we're capable of applying'.  Human emotions will continue to trump fiction, to live it, to make it through, that alone is motivation, worthy of sharing.  Part of your mission is in the ability to endure, endurance builds character and with character, you exemplify a structure, that is astute and admirable.

Flashback Who's That:

Flashback who's that Thursday:

UK soul singer Mica Paris came on the scene in 1988 and was the talk all over the United Kingdom.  He debut CD' 'So Good' found its way to America with her single 'My One Temptation' and started her legions of fans stateside.  'So Good' garnered her awards and rave reviews.  The influence of gospel, rock, jazz and soul could easily be heard everytime she stepped up to a microphone.   After her platinum debut CD, one would assume that she was on her way to worldwide stardom and fame.  Her followup CD 'Contribution' with a Prince written single failed to match the success of her debut.  Her record label grew antsy trying to figure out how to market and promote her.

In 1993 her management team and record label, had a brilliant ideal to bring her stateside and team her with super hot producer Narada Michael Walden (Aretha Franklin  Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Annie Lennox). Together the duo created a masterpiece called 'Whisper A Prayer' featuring well received singles such as 'I Want To Hold On To You', 'Never Felt This Way Before' (produced by ultra funky producer Peter Black) and 'You Put A Move On My Heart' (which became a r&b hit for singer 'Tamia' one year later).  'Prayer' though receiving rave reviews, it did not produce blockbuster sales that her label was expecting and hoping for.  Twenty years later that Disc, is STILL relevant, which is a testament of the production, talent and mastery of Mica and Narada.  Mica has since switched labels a few times, unfortunately super stardom wasn't her fate.  She released a few more CD's in which one was a 'Best Of' and recently her debut CD 'So Good' has been re-issued.  Today Mica still records, tours and is a mother of two girls Monet and Russia-Mae.   She's also an Ambassador for the 'Amy Winehouse' foundation. Check out Mica's catalog you will love her stellar smokey vocals, surely born to captivate you.

Ray Nagin GUILTY!!!!

Source: AP / CBS News

A jury has found former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin guilty of corruption for taking bribes while in office.

Nagin faced a 21-count indictment, and he was found guilty on 20 of them. Prosecutors had alleges he took bribes worth more than $500,000 in a string of criminal acts that began before Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005 and continued during the recovery.

The defense argued that the prosecution case was built on testimony from businessmen who entered plea deals and told prosecutors what they wanted to hear in hopes of getting light sentences.

Jurors got the case Monday afternoon. They had deliberated about three hours when they broke for the night. An unspecified medical problem affecting one juror cancelled Tuesday’s deliberations. A court record gave no details but said the juror would be back Wednesday.

Will Justice Be Done?

In the 21st century, the rules and walk are, no different for the plight of Black people, than it was 200 hundred years ago.  What we have recently witnessed is this, 1. If you're black and walking down the street wearing a 'hoodie', it means that you're a hoodlum, and you're not allowed to walk, roam in upper scale neighborhoods.  The right to bear arms, opens the conversation right up about murder.   If you feel threatened or intimidated, does that give a pass to KILL someone?

2.  If you're a Black youth, you are not allowed to play loud music, because that act gives white America, the right to feel that their life is being threatened, so its okay for them to kill us.
George Zimmerman and Bill Nunn, both pompous control freaks, with ego's bigger than the state of Texas.  For argument sake, lets say that they are not racist, but can we agree that both of these youth murders, were racially motivated.

Remembering Whitney!!!

Whitney E. Houston ... Iconic and Legendary.

Two years ago the music world suffered a horrific blow.  The voice of a Heavenly Angel was called home and the entire world collectively mourned.  All of her personal struggles were exonerated.  No matter what naysayers could chime in on, and believe me they did. Fact remains, Whitney Houston changed the music world, every time she opened her mouth and graced the stage.  Her instrument raised the bar AND she became the standard.

She was the epitome of what greatness, and wonderfully talented is compared to.  She was not to be denied, she came on the scene, she made us take notice, and boy oh boy did we ever.

Despite the politics of the Grammys omitting her name from their Best New Artist ballot, (which went to Sade) clearly Whitney Houston was the Best New Artist of 1986.  NARAS disqualified her because she had a duet with Teddy Pendergrass before her Debut album was released.  Well so did 1987 Best New Artist winner Jody Watley, who sang in a group for 6 years, another best new artist winner Cyndi Lauper, who also sang in  a

recording group, Sheryl Crow and Shelby Lynne also Best New Artist winners who previously recorded music before their 'debut'. the list goes on and on.

Whitney was scrutinized very early on, either she wasn't black enough, or too white for some.  Yes her instrument was that BIG.  People wanted to have something to say in attempt to dim her light, but it couldn't be done.  One thing undeniable was her VOICE, when she opened her mouth, she captivated everyone.  Her voice united nations and whatever the troubles of the world was at that time, for a brief moment, she made us forget. He greatness touched the heart in each and everyone of us.

Though she only won 6 Grammys in her career, the history books speaks otherwise.  She is the most Awarded female entertainer EVER!!  She has won over 422 Awards in her Illustrious career.  Beyond color, beyond creed Whitney rewrote the history books paving the way for the Mariah's, Christina's, Celine's,  Wynonna's, Brandy's, Mary's, Beyonce's and the rest of the stable of female singers.  Selling over 170 million records.

Taking a lyric and making it her own, she was a master at her craftsmanship, her approached seemed effortlessly. Whitney's untimely demised left us feeling that more greatness was to come.  A life interrupted. Luckily for us, her voice is immortal and timeless.  Gone but not forgotten, she remains forever in our hearts.

Personally for me, it was my Privilege to roam the earth with a rare talent like Whitney. It was my pleasure to witnessed her magic LIVE on more than 15 occasions, memories that are etched in my heart, soul and spirit. KK

Sedentary/TGIF

Happy Friday everyone, ... Let's Talk about It!!

If you are sedentary in your life, but are puzzled why things are not advancing, fault and blame, can only be placed on self.   Prayer works and is very powerful, you have to do your part too.  What are you willing to give of yourself, in the quest of your prayer?  Be mindful about what you ask for, be clear and aware of all your surroundings.  The air you breathe is a blessing, the heart that is beating, its by design, there's a plan and purpose meant for you.  Things are not always what they seem,  proceed with caution and focus with your eyes open, give enough distance not to be caught blindsided.   Your talks with GOD can not be ordinary, and lifting your hands to him can not be seasonal.  This is about the most high, dream Godly dreams, the big answers will come.  If your radical, don't question a radical result.  Things that come into your life, will always be greater than you could ever know.  Never go back on a promise, your word should be trusted gold.

Running away from your problems is a race that you wont win.  Face your challenges head on, its work, and things aren't always greeted with savory results.   'The Power of Now' talks about  how many times we are present in capsule, but our minds are adrift.  To sit and wonder is not productive.  Let us be fully intentional about being present, and the people we choose to commune with, in our lives.  We are mortals who constantly keep evolving into greater beings.

Flashback Who's That:

Flashback Who's That Thursdays:

Bilal Sayeed Oliver better known mononymously as 'Bilal', is an American singer-songwriter, musician and producer. He is currently an independent artist residing in New York City.

Bilal was trained in jazz and classical music before recording and joining the Soulquarians collective, which contributed in producing his '1st Born Second' debut in 2001. The disc scored great reviews and moderate success. Often compared as a knock off version of Prince. '1st' featured an eclectic sound incorporating musical elements of jazz, hip hop, scat, reggae, and rock music. Bilal has great range, and is known for his live performances.

He released two CD's for Interscope but neither gained him the status that many felt his talent deserved. At the time of his debut 'Neo Soul' was all the rage, and he had all the ingredients. Its baffling to the mind, how some make the cut and others do not. Its politics and payola most times.

Today Bilal continues to record and tour, and he has a loyal following.

He's been the 'go to' guy for the last few years, and he continues to grow as an artist. One who understands the past of the greats. Check him out below, in a 2011 performance, to the late Amy Winehouse ... He nails this performance. This boy is on FIRE!
